In the 1960’s, The Schaad Family and their 13 children had a dairy farm, across the river from Mary’s House, known as the Silverheels Farm. Several of their children, including Joe & Paul, picked up potatoes, the primary crop, at Silverheels Farm at that time. Silverheels was their “Dream Farm”. In 2008 Joe and Paul were blessed to be able to purchase the Silverheels farm to raise cattle and farm the land. The big beautiful farm house needed lots of TLC.
Several members of the Schaad family gathered and prayed, dedicating the house to Mother Mary. They placed a statue of Mary in the front yard of the house.
One day Joe was at the farm walking across the yard on his way to feed the cattle. When he passed the house he stopped, looked up, and said, “Mary, what do YOU want me to do with this house?” At that moment he was overcome with an unmistakable answer, “SAVE MY CHILDREN”.
Joe just couldn’t shake off what he had heard in his heart, mind, and soul and decided to share this with his family.
In 2015 it began, the Schaad family shared their story and decided to give their house to be a safe haven for mothers and babies as an alternative to abortion.
It has been over 5 years since the Board was formed and much dedication, hard work, and many, many prayers have gone into this magnanimous effort to create Mary’s House at Silver Heels Inc. It began with the development of a board with 15 members. Members of the board and community have worked diligently in the construction and labor to build Mary’s House to where it is today. Many hours of labor were donated and supplies were furnished from many individuals and businesses. It has truly been a “labor of love”.
At Mary’s House all residents will be provided with goal management services to help develop and pursue positive life goals and prepare them for the future.
Our staff and volunteers will work with the residents to identify important development goals and a concrete plan for achieving them.
The development goals include birthing class, parenting skills, life skills, medical educational, substance use education, coping skills and mental health, financial education, continued education, training and employment, housing, spiritual well-being, legal issues, along with any other areas needed.
There is no cost for the mothers to reside at Mary’s House and our home is modeled after a family/community life. We operate solely on prayer and donations.
Mary’s House is a nonprofit Catholic based home for pregnant women of all faiths whose desire is to “save the children”. Mothers who otherwise would have no loving or nurturing home to learn to care for themselves and their newborn child(ren) are welcomed at Mary’s House. Here they will come to embrace the Sanctity of Life in all stages.
